Role & Responsibilities: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Engineer to be part of an innovative and forward-thinking team that values creativity, inclusivity, and professional growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leading various ideation techniques, cost analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies. This role will focus on identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities while maintaining product quality and performance.


  • As Staff Engineer you will provide leadership to handle cost out / VAVE ideation functional stream for optical systems and components.
  • Apply optical design expertise alongside ideation techniques like Product cost analysis, should costing, Costed BOM analysis, site material spend analysis, teardown, competitive benchmarking & VAVE methodology to improve product margin.
  • Engage with global partners, report the progress, and call out for support periodically.
  • Provide leadership, supervision & coordination for project management, and optical design activities for the VAVE team.
  • Work with the project leaders on better resolving project technical risks at the earlier stage of projects and have a clear plan of mitigating them.
  • Thorough understanding on the qualification criteria for optical systems, components, and related mechanical & electromechanical components.
  • Identify the process gaps, Build & establish standard work, and PPI system for continuous improvement & effective execution. Use PPI methodology to drive Continuous Improvement and support all PPI, Keys and Lean projects.
  • Provide mentor, guidance, and support for the continued professional development of the team.

Skills and Competencies:


  • Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field with focus on optics.
  • 15+ years overall experience with strong optical systems design, sustenance & Cost out project execution experience.
  • Delivered $1M+ cost savings for the business handles over the career.
  • Having strong record of driving strategic Cost out / VAVE deliveries in optical systems. Experience in optical product VAVE project execution.
  • Expert in optical system design, lens design, optical component specification, imaging systems, and illumination design.
  • Proficient with optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V, or similar tools) and optical system modeling.
  • Deep understanding of optical materials, coatings, manufacturing processes, and cost drivers for optical components.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements, certification, and engineering standards relevant to optical systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to influence team members.
  • Excellent people leadership skills.
