Our facility provides day surgery, outpatient consultations, and comprehensive diagnostic services for over 30 clinical specialties, including a satellite clinic for Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Moorfield Eye Hospital.
Job Overview:
This role is responsible for providing optometric services to patients by performing optometric procedures as well as prescribing, supplying and making adjustments to eyeglasses, contact lenses and other visual aids in line with M42 and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. The incumbent is also responsible for overseeing the incoming orders for contact lens and low vision aids to ensure their accurate and timely delivery to patients.
Responsibilities
- Obtains and verifies patient information and any clinical, medical and surgical history in order to conduct the appropriate ophthalmic assessments.
- Provides optometric services including but not limited to diagnostic and post-operative refraction cases, slip-lamp examination, keratometry, contact lens fitting and aftercare, visual acuity testing, refraction for children under cycloplegia, tonometry, lensometry, ocular motility, pupil assessment, topography and pachymetry under the supervision of the Physician and/or relevant caregivers.
- Prescribes, supplies and makes adjustments to corrective eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
- Arranges referrals to other medical caregivers for further examination, diagnosis and/or treatment if required.
- Provides patients with advice on insertion, removal and care of contact lenses as well as proper use of low vision aids.
- Oversees the incoming orders for contact lens and low vision aids to ensure their accurate and timely delivery to patients.
- Communicates with the Optometry team and other clinical caregivers regarding any significant abnormalities detected during patient’s assessment.
- Prioritizes caseload in accordance with primary healthcare principles and the available resources in order to ensure coverage of all cases.
- Develops and maintains clinical documents ensuring their accuracy and timely completion and capturing of detailed information and services provided to the patient.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Optometry or Doctor of Optometry (minimum 3 years course duration)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience post qualification in the relevant field
- Valid Medical License in United Arab Emirates (DOH/DHA/MOH)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Knowledge of key optometric procedures and current best practices
- Good knowledge of optometric refraction and diabetic eye complications
- Understanding of optometry relevant regulations
