They will work with a team ofphysicians and other health care specialists or allied health in varioussettings• Perform systematic patient assessment and collect pertinent data aboutthe patient’s health or situation.• Understand and analyze the assessment information and data• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues• Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s plannedcare• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the medical team• Record vital signs, recognize and address abnormalities• Define the care plan in collaboration with the healthcare team, patients,and families.• Maintain and update the technical and clinical skills related to nursingpractice• Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory exams• Perform essential life support (BLS• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment• Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects andreactions• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitorpatients for any reactions• Provide wound care management• Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed• Facilitate the process of safe patient`s admission and discharge• Dons & adheres to operating room attire according to policy andprocedure.• Prepares room and assembles instruments & equipment based onpatient’s surgical needs.• Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique.• Correctly identifies patient and surgical site.• Checks thoroughly the pre-operative checklist of patient; includingcompletion of required diagnostic & laboratory procedures• Monitors patients’ vital signs in the pre-operative area and post-operativerecovery room• Positions patient with the use of positional aids, maintaining circulatory,respiratory, neuromuscular homeostasis while maintaining privacy andproviding maximum exposure to the operative procedure • Demonstrates skill in performing the duties of scrub nurse and circulatingnurse• Provides safety to patient, to self & the whole surgical team by adoptingsafety protocols like ‘Time Out’.• Counts Surgical items audibly, and views items concurrently with anotherindividual when counting, and recognizes that one of the individualsperforming the count should be the RN circulator.• Recognizes that, when possible, surgical counts during a procedureshould be performed by the same two individuals.• Verifies correct recording of the surgical counts of soft goods, sharps,miscellaneous items, and items placed in the wound in a location that isvisible to the surgical team (e.g., the white count board).• Implements correct practices for the prevention of infection, practicingstrict aseptic technique & maintenance of sterile field.• Assist the surgeon and anesthetist during the operation and ensureappropriate handling of the specimen obtained during surgery.• Organize patient transportation from the OT to the recovery room andcarry-out and/or supervise all the postoperative activities to prepare theOT for the next scheduled operation or emergency.• Implement the hygiene, sterilization, asepsis and disinfection protocolsand procedures at all times, before, during and after operations, toensure the safety conditions of patients and staff. 3.17Participate in careand maintenance of endoscopes, electrosurgical unit, microscopes, drillsystems, phacco machine, endoscopes and other specializedequipment, ensuring an agreed standard of decontamination at all timesincluding accurate records of traceability of all equipment. 3.18Accurately maintain count of all surgical instruments, swabs and needlesused during the surgery and ensure that the surgical instruments aresend to CSSD for cleaning and disinfection as per the policy of thehospital.• Demonstrate skill in surgical hand wash and appropriate knowledge ofthe infection control practices pertaining to operating theatre.• Competent in monitoring of patients post anesthesia.• Ensure that patients recovering from anesthesia receive optimum careand is able to demonstrate complete knowledge in the usage of Aldretescoring.• Maintains confidentiality of patient’s records and updates all relevantpatient documentation / medical records as per hospital policy andprocedure.• Demonstrates competence in Cardio – Pulmonary Resuscitationtechnique• Strictly adheres to the waste segregation and disposal as per hospitalpolicy.
